The EU has introduced the Eurosur border surveillance system which it says will save lives by using helicopters, drones and satellites to detect boats carrying migrants. But the lobby group, Human Rights Watch, insists that the idea is not to protect asylum seekers but to create a fortress around the EU, to catch asylum seekers and send them home where they may face torture or execution. New personal data gathering measures under the Eurosur system at EU borders are also raising concerns.
