A convenience store in Gastonia, North Carolina was recently hit by an armed thief, who didn’t walk away with money, but instead left with a single can of beer.

The store worker on duty at the time of the crime, Charlie Welch even recognized the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Jah Setzer, as he was a regular customer at the business.

Setzer was carrying a loaded revolver when he attempted to swipe cash from the register. Once he realized he couldn’t open it, Setzer allegedly fired several shots at Welch.

Thankfully the victim was able to move towards the back door, as part of his efforts to avoid getting shot. He was successful and managed to escape the bullets.

The suspect grabbed a can of Bud Light off the counter and fled from the store on foot. Police were called to the scene and quickly apprehended Setzer.

He was booked into Gaston County Jail and held on a $75,000 bond. Despite the trauma and terrifying circumstances of the robbery, Welch returned to work just one day after the incident.
