London’s Heathrow Airport has become the first to open a lounge dedicated to the use of e-cigarettes.

London’s Heathrow Airport has become the first to open a lounge dedicated to the use of e-cigarettes.

The 300-plus square foot area was established by Gamucci, a manufacturer of the odorless, tobacco-less smoking alternative and is located in Terminal 4, next to the duty-free shops.

Prior to this, e-cigarette users had to hoof it outside just like those partaking in a traditional smoke.

London seems like a natural place to try out the lounge, as a reported 10 percent of all smokers in Britain have switched to the tobacco-free alternative.

At the same time, however, the EU is trying to have e-cigarettes banned, under the belief that rather than being a substitute for the real thing, they’re a gateway to it.

Despite the controversy surrounding the product itself, the public has responded favorably to the airport lounge.

In an independent survey conducted by travel site Skyscanner, 57 percent of respondents said they were fine with the idea and wouldn’t be at all bothered if other airports established designated areas for electronic cigarette use.

Among those giving the thumbs up were 50 percent of the non-smoking survey takers.
