Residents of Florida’s Holly Hill community were surprised to hear that their neighborhood has been selected as the location for a new drainage facility.

Residents of one Holly Hill community in Florida were surprised to hear that their trailer park has been selected as the location for a new drainage facility.

They were first told of the project – and that about 80 of them would have to move – after the proposal to purchase the land was approved by city officials.

The city’s plan is to acquire two acres of land including the trailer park and an adjoining lot so reservoir ponds can be built and the area’s flooding problem remedied.

It hasn’t reached the point of payment yet, but officials say there’s no other option.

The park’s manager has found one, though.

He said, "We have enough space to move people from the front of the park to the back of the park, you put the retention pond in and no one loses their home and everyone goes home happy…”

The manager also pointed out that many of the people living there for the most part don’t have other housing options or the money to move.

As far as not telling anyone, the city manager recently announced that residents will be informed when the city has title to the property.
