Štefan Füle, the EU’s enlargement commissioner, has been speaking to euronews about the protests in Ukraine.

He also described Kiev’s U-turn on a planned trade deal as a “missed chance” for Ukrainians.

Füle told euronews’ Andrei Beketov: “I am happy that democracy in Ukraine has reached the moment where the people are free to assemble and express their opinion, particular on the issue which is so relevant for their own future, the future of Ukraine.”

euronews: Anyway, the preparations are suspended on the Ukrainian side, you see the damage has been done already. Don’t you think it could be a failure of the European diplomacy?

Štefan Füle, EU enlargement commissioner:
Let’s see what is going to happen in Vilnius. Number one. Number Two: I think what is the most important is that it is a missed chance for Ukrainian, and it is a missed chance for the people of the European Union”
