The RFSC Conference 2013: Towards a European model of a sustainable city
  • 10 years ago
The Reference Framework for European Sustainable Cities (RFSC) is an online toolkit designed to help cities promote and enhance their work on integrated sustainable urban development. It is available free of charge to all European local authorities and offers practical support in integrating sustainability principles into local policies and actions.

The RFSC Conference “Towards the European Model of a Sustainable City”, held on 9 October 2013 in Brussels (Belgium), concluded that the RFSC tool is a key element of the emerging EU Urban Agenda, allowing cities to find a common language to discuss the challenges they are facing and share the solutions.

Almost 200 delegates representing more than 20 European countries attended the high-level event, contributing to the discussions on the future of the RFSC community and the role of cities in reaching the EU2020 goals. Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, emphasised the importance of cities using the tool, calling for all EU cities to sign-up to the RFSC and make it their own, enriching the tool with their experiences and customising it according to their needs.
