It's hard to put into context the incredible news that both Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One both sold over a million units worldwide within their first day of release. Those numbers are unprecedented, with the PS3 and Xbox 360 only selling a few hundred thousand units apiece during their launch years ago.
Starting soon, Marissa Mayer will only be the second-most famous woman at Yahoo. The internet giant is set to hire Katie Couric, the former anchor of “CBS Evening News” and NBC’s “Today” who is currently a special correspondent at ABC News. Sources say her new role will be announced Monday. (The Hollywood Reporter was first to break news of the impending move.)
In an email, a Microsoft spokesperson called the one-million-plus Xbox One debut the “biggest launch in Xbox history.” The total sold kept Microsoft competitive with Sony's PS4 that launched to similar numbers a week earlier. It’s worth pointing out, though, that the PS4 debuted in just two countries last week while the Xbox One launched simultaneously in 13 markets.
