Elections are an essential part of a functioning government - whether it's at a national or local level.

There were no mayoral or city council elections in Wallsburg, Utah this November as the town’s new recorder forgot to make arrangements for it.

In addition to not putting the needed election workings in motion, the individual lapsed on announcing the opening and closing of the candidate application window.

As nobody knew it was time to make a bid to run, nobody did.

Said the county clerk, "Wallsburg never advertised or prepared for an election this year, so no one signed up.”
By the time the error was caught it was too late to throw together an election.

The town of 275 people will re-appoint their sitting officials and be sure to mark their calendars for their next opportunity to vote or run.

That chance will roll around again in 2015.

It’s actually been quite a while since the town has held local races for the positions.

Town officials didn’t schedule an election in 2011 either.

At that time the townspeople just went the appointment route as well.

Wallsburg is located less than 50 miles out of Salt Lake City.
