How do you play Guitar Hero on a handheld? That's the question the team at Vicarious Visions had to answer for their blockbuster series to be released on Nintendo's blockbuster handheld. And they came up with the Guitar Grip, a brilliant piece of accessory design and a brutal test of your arm's tolerance for pain. Released alongside the game Guitar Hero: On Tour in 2007, the Guitar Grip enabled the biggest rhythm game series on the planet to come to the Nintendo DS. By plugging the grip into the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot on the DS, players could strum on the touch screen while pressing the fret buttons built in to the accessory. It was like a handheld guitar crossed with a PDA. The game and accessory were bundled together and included a Nintendo DS stylus shaped like a guitar pick. The accessory would support more Guitar Hero DS games until Nintendo released the DSi, a follow-up to the DS Lite that removed the GBA cartridge slot. This video review features video gameplay footage of the Guitar Grip accessory for the Nintendo DS and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.
