Fox is playing a game of musical chairs with some of their upcoming release dates, and some of your most anticipated movies aren't going to be hitting theaters when you think they will. When we tell you all to mark your calendars for an upcoming release date, we may want to suggest that you mark them in pencil, because things do shift and change often in Hollywood. And today, we have heard that Fox is revamping their 2015 and 2016 slate and you're gonna need an big eraser for these changes. Fox just announced that Roland Emmerich's sequel, Independence Day 2 will no longer come out in July of 2015, no it's getting pushed back to July 1st, 2016. Honestly, this isn't too shocking for several reasons. Emmerich had said in the past that the previous release date was probably temporary, and Paramount recently moved the release date for the upcoming Terminator reboot to that very same weekend, so there were probably several reasons why this change was inevitable. But, something that is kinda cool about this change is that the new release date happens to fall exactly 20 years and one day after the original hit theaters. And the 2015 summer slate is so swamped already, this shift is probably for the best anyway. But Independence Day isn't the only Fox project getting a new spot. The Josh Trank directed, Fantastic Four reboot is also getting a push, but luckily for us it's only about three months later. Instead of hitting theaters in March of 2015, it will now join the summer blockbuster party and be released on June 19th, 2015, which bumps the Matthew Fassbender starrer Assassins Creed to August 7th. And taking over Fantastic Four's old March 6th slot will be Matthew Vaughn's project, The Secret Service. So, I hope all of this news didn't mess up your calendars too much, but is anyone out there bummed that we're going to have to wait another year to see the Independence Day sequel? Or are you glad this is the new plan, because of all of the crowding that's happening during the 2015 summer slate? Sound off right here, and if you are a constantly on Facebook and Twitter, like myself, make sure you find and connect us over there as well. From our headquarters in Hollywood, Im Erin Robinson. See ya next time.
