Gaga gives new album arty outing with Koons in tow

Two people with the Midas touch met in New York for a musical event; the release of Lady Gaga’s new album ‘Artpop’. She was always destined it seems to hook up with Jeff Koons. He did the album cover, and was a star guest at the launch party, where a lot of art was on show, not only his own.

“Being here today with Jeff Koons and Marina Abramovic, with the work of Bob Wilson, Inez and Vinoodh photography, this is all about showing my fans that having one really good idea is enough. If you believe in yourself and you work hard, rehearse and have discipline, these ideas could take us to the moon,” she said.

For the occasion the 27-year-old innovative pop star also
presented what she called the world’s first flying dress, ‘Volantis’.

Gaga, known as much for her off-the-wall performances and outrageous costumes as for her music, was strapped into a contraption mounted on a flat disk and fronted by a molded body suit. It hoisted her aloft before a horde of media and industry types.

The battery-powered dress was able to rise a few feet off the ground and propelled her perhaps seven metres before landing.

“We were very excited about this idea, building a flying dress. It was sort of humorous and whimsical and seemed like the sort of thing I’d like to perform in on stage. But then when we really started to work on it, we realised her potential for the world, and for everyone. What we really wanted to do was involve the world in her process, involve the world in making her. You can all send us your notes on Volantis, and we’ll be working on her and making her better and better. Hopefully, one day you’ll own a Volantis of your own,” says Gaga.

Until then consumers will have to make do with owning one of her Ladyship’s albums, or one of the other many consumer goods now sporting the shrewd superstar’s brand.
