U.N. court settles Thai-Cambodian border row in Cambodia's favor

The International Court of Justice has awarded jurisdiction of the 900-year-old Preah Vihear Temple to Cambodia.
The temple, which borders Thailand, has caused violent disputes between the two countries in recent years.
The U.N. court ordered Thailand to withdraw all military and police forces from the area.
Presiding Judge, Peter Tomka:
(SOUNDBITE) (English), PRESIDING JUDGE, PETER TOMKA, SAYING:
"The court therefore concludes that the first operative paragraph of the 1962 judgment determined that Cambodia had sovereignty over the whole territory of the promontory of Preah Vihear, as defined in paragraph 98 of the present judgment..."
Both Thailand and Cambodia have blamed the other for starting fights in the area, causing nationalist outcries in both countries.
The worst battles, in 2011, killed 28 people and damaged a wing of the main temple.
