Marvel fans, I hope you're sitting down. I've got new details on new characters who are going to finally get their time in the spotlight. Disney and Netflix have just signed a huge deal to develop four live-action Marvel superhero series with characters whose stories will then be used to create one big Marvel mini-series. And those characters who will be getting their own mini series will be Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Now this is a multi year deal that begins in 2015 and will appear of course only on Netflix, and each character will receive thirteen episodes each, starting with Daredevil. And after all 52 episodes, the 4 heroes will unite to form The Defenders in an Avengers-style mini-series event that will quote "reimagine a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters." The series will take place in a gritty Hell's Kitchen, New York, and the characters stories will take place over a span of several years. Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment said quote "This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what's sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure." As you know, Ben Affleck starred as the blind hero Daredevil in the critically panned 2003 feature film. 20th Century Fox was developing a reboot of the character, but it failed to come together and the rights to Daredevil reverted back to Marvel. There has been a lot of speculation that we could see Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but with this announcement, it's unclear if these new series will take a page from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and follow the same timeline as the films or if they will live within their own separate universe. Comic fans will be familiar with The Defenders as a sort of anti-Avengers "non-team" formed by Dr. Strange that had no permanent headquarters and a revolving roster of heroes that cared little for each other. In addition to Strange, the original members included Hulk, Namor and Silver Surfer. So who is excited to see these new mini-series? And other than Ben Affleck, who is of course your obvious top choice for Daredevil, who would you like to see take on these Marvel characters? You know the drill! Chat with us all about it. And as always get yourself on twitter and facebook and start liking and following us, right now! Im Erin Robinson, from Hollywood, and Ill see you next time.
