A young Jeff Buckley struggles to make peace with his late father Tim's legacy while preparing to perform at a tribute concert to the legendary singer-songwriter, in this stirring drama about the prelude to the creation of Jeff's monumental album Grace.
Official Selection, Toronto International Film Festival 2012
The sad fates of Jeff Buckley and his father Tim Buckley — both of whom died at a tragically early age, Tim from a drug overdose, Jeff from a swimming accident — have become part of American rock legend. Greetings from Tim Buckley follows the young Jeff (Penn Badgley) in the days leading up to his debut public performance at a 1991 tribute concert to his father at St. Ann's Church, as he struggles to come to terms with a lifetime of mixed feelings towards the father who had abandoned him and his mother shortly after Jeff was born. As Jeff prepares to make his own step into the limelight — and finds romance with Allie (Imogen Poots), a young woman working at the concert — we witness a son emerging out of his father's long shadow, and see tantalizing glimpses of the nascent genius that would be revealed in its full glory on Jeff's landmark 1994 album Grace. Juxtaposing Jeff's entry into his father's world with scenes of Tim in his heyday (played by Ben Rosenfield), Greetings from Tim Buckley is a moving study of the emotional and artistic bonds that connected a wild, brilliant father with his tortured, equally brilliant son.http://tiff.net/filmsandschedules/tiffbelllightbox/2013/2330008736
