U.N.'s Brahimi says no date for Syria peace talks

Few signs of a path for peace in Syria as the war rages on.
So far after more than two years of conflict efforts to bring warring parties to the table are falling short.
On Tuesday, the U.S.and Russia sat down with UN envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi in Switzerland -- hoping to launch the so-called Geneva 2 talks to end the war.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.N.-ARAB LEAGUE ENVOY FOR SYRIA LAKHDAR BRAHIMI SAYING:
"We were hoping that we would be in a position to announce a date today, unfortunately we are not. But we are still striving to see if we can have the conference before the end of the year."
There were more encouraging signs out of the UN in New York in terms of eliminating Syria's chemical weapons.
But U.S. ambassador to the UN Samantha Power underscores that progress is not a solution.
