CSKA Moscow apologised for the racial abuse Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure suffered when the two teams met a fortnight ago in Russia.

The contrition came almost two weeks after the original incident and with the club having previously continued to play down what happened despite European football governing body UEFA ordering them to play their next Champions League home game with a partial stadium closure.

During CSKA's official pre-match press conference on Monday the club's media officer originally tried to prevent any questions being asked about racism.

After first saying he was sorry some of the club's fans would miss their next game, defender Sergei Ignashevich also apologised for what had occurred.
