People in the U.S. last year spent $11 billion on cosmetic procedures, citing the physiques of celebrities such as first-lady Michelle Obama as their inspiration.

According to data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons on Monday, Americans underwent a total 1.6 million cosmetic surgeries last year, with breast augmentations winning the top spot with 286,000 operations. The total surgeries figure includes procedures such as face-lifts, liposuction and rhinoplasty.

The report also highlights the dramatic increase in upper arm lift procedures, which last year hit 15,457, or a 4,378% increase since 2000. Better than 98% of patients of this kind of surgery last year were women. Polls indicated that women are now paying closer attention to their arms, as well as those of celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Jennifer Aniston and Demi Moore.
