South Korea based electronics device company Samsung has developed a system that connects some household appliances through an interface with their Smart TV SDK.

Certain connected Samsung appliances including a refrigerator and washing machine can transmit information to the latest Smart TV screens, such as when someone opens the fridge, or when the laundry is finished. Even their air conditioner can be controlled by the TV.

Samsung announced the new integration technology at a recent conference in San Francisco, California.

The company reportedly sold 53 million televisions in 2012, and according to the Samsung Electronics America Vice President Eric Anderson, their Smart TVs and Blu-Ray players currently have an activation rate of 72 percent in the US

People who buy the Smart TVs seem to use them, with 19 percent watching online video at least once a day, and reportedly Samsung’s TV apps are also very popular.

For example, users of the Hulu Plus App watch it for an average of one hour per day.

What do you think about Samsung’s idea to connect home appliances using a Smart TV system?
