Sergio Haro is a reporter for the Zeta weekly in northern Mexico. He's been working as a journalist for the past two decades in a country where 172 reporters have been murdered in the past 12 years. Among them was Benjamín Flores who, together with Haro and three other journalists, set up a daily in northern Mexico in 1997. A few months later Flores was shot dead.
Many other reporters have been silenced. Despite these frightening statistics, Haro refuses to stop reporting on the country's main problem: the drugs trade.
His story was featured in the documentary "Reportero", which was screened at the recent Dutch film festival, Movies that Matter. He spoke to RNW while visiting The Hague.
