In this episode of Ask Momma, a viewer asked about why her cheese sauce for Macaroni and Cheese comes out grainy. She makes roux with flour and butter and adds milk. Here are my suggestions.

When adding the milk to your roux for cheese sauce for macaroni and cheese, make sure the milk is warm when adding it to the hot pan. Adding cold milk may scald it and contribute to the grainy texture of the cheese sauce. Also, use whole milk and even add heavy cream to add to the creamy texture, instead of using low fat or skim milk. Macaroni and cheese is supposed to be a rich and creamy dish, so do not cut corners by using skim or low fat milk.
