Those who have lost a loved one know the sadness involved. The grieving process certainly doesn’t need to be anymore complicated than it already is.
A graveyard in Cologne, Germany is under serious scrutiny after staffers cremated a woman who was supposed to be buried. Basically, the mishap occurred when two bodies were mixed up.
The troubling incident was brought to light after the family of the deceased woman contacted police because her coffin mysteriously went missing without an explanation as to how or why. An investigation was immediately launched.
Initially it was suspected a local motorcycle gang stole the casket. Workers at the graveyard vehemently denied the body had been cremated by mistake, but it was later revealed that’s exactly what had occurred.
The woman’s remains had been mislabeled, confused with another deceased body that was scheduled for cremation. An official with Cologne's Office for Public Spaces stated that there is room for errors when dealing with remains and that staff members involved in the mishap would receive disciplinary action.
An apology was also issued to family members of the woman.
