Driverless cars are projected to be a norm several decades from now. But existing cars without drivers can be quite dangerous.

Diners on Gouger St in Adelaide, Australia got an unexpected surprise after a runaway vehicle careened forward and smashed into tables which were located right outside a local restaurant.

While many customers were able to jump to safety, avoiding any harm, one woman wasn’t able to. She couldn't get away fast enough and the car pushed her forward, but luckily she wasn’t run over. She escaped the ordeal with only minor injuries.

According to witnesses, the two-door Toyota, which contained no occupants, cruised down the road before moving in the direction of a public footpath. It smashed through outdoor tables before finally striking a nearby travel agency and coming to a stop.

One of the diners claimed he heard the signature “beep beep” sound which triggers after a remote button has been pushed. After that noise the engine fired up and the vehicle began rolling forward.

Police have not released information regarding what exactly caused the car to move.
