When he was 22 years old, Michael Spann of Antioch, Tennessee, started bleeding from his eyes.

He said right before it happened, he got a severe headache.
That first incident involving the headache and subsequent bleeding occurred 7 years ago. Initially they were an everyday thing, but now, the episodes have diminished to a twice-weekly event.
Nonetheless, his condition prevents him from being able to hold down a job.
Spann said that as soon as the bizarre bleeding starts, his employment tends to end.
He’s been to doctors, but they say there’s nothing that can be done to help as they’ve been unable to find a cause.
Sometimes the condition is brought on by head trauma or injury, but Spann’s was not.
As mysterious as the affliction is overall, there are many incidents surrounding recent manifestations that make it even more so.
For example, in 2004, doctors noted that 11 inexplicable cases had been reported inside of a decade. Prior to that the last documented idiopathic instance was in 1935.
Also, there is another man in Tennessee who was diagnosed with the condition in 2009. His case is also apparently without cause.
