Flood victims protest in eastern China, attack media and police vehicles

STORY: Hundreds of flood victims protested, clashed with police and trashed vehicles in eastern China on Friday , furious about what they called biased media reporting on their suffering.

A crowd that swelled to almost one thousand people attacked a satellite truck belonging to Ningbo TV, which protesters claimed had not reported the severity of the worst flooding the area has seen in a century.

Dozens of police, including riot police, were sent to Yuyao City to control the mob, which then turned on them, trashing and overturning their vans, a witness reported.

State media said more than 70 percent of the town was initially flooded by the heaviest rainfall in a century after Typhoon Fitow hit eastern China.

Some 800,000 residents were affected, but local authorities have issued no casualty figures.
