Remember when Andy Serkis blew our minds with his performance in Rise of the Planet of the Apes?

I think most people still do, and if you're like me you were probably scratching your head during the announcement of the 2012 Oscars, when Serkis wasn't even nominated for best supporting actor for his revolutionary work as the chimpanzee, Caesar, in Rupart Wyatts 2011 Rise of the Planet of the Apes

And while there are a lot of factors that go into choosing an Oscar nomination, we all feel pretty confident that a big reason why Serkis wasn't nominated is because his performance as Caesar was done by performance capture, which is a discipline that the Academy has yet to consider when they are choosing Oscar contenders.
But next year, the sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will invade theaters on July 18th, which means its another chance to see if Andy's performance will be impressive enough for The Academy.

I was lucky enough to be able to chat with Judy Greer about all of this at the Carrie press day. Judy will be playing Caesar's wife Cornelia in the upcoming movie and here's what the actress said about working on set and her thoughts about mo-cap ever getting recognized at the Oscars.
So, I want to throw this topic out to you all, the fans...Do you think that the Academy should include performance capture when they are considering nominees? And what did you think of Andy Serkis' performance of Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes?
