Four men, one of them a police officer, were stabbed in a Birmingham mosque by a man wielding a combat knife on Saturday. The suspect, a 32-year-old Somali man, allegedly got into an argument with a fellow mosque worshipper. The dispute escalated and the suspect pulled out a combat knife and stabbed the other man in the leg before turning on other mosque attendees who attempted to intervene.

Minutes later two police officers arrived. One of the officers hit the suspect with a taser, but it had no effect. The officer was stabbed around the stab proof vest he was wearing, sustaining injuries to the chest and stomach. The suspect, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, was taken to a secure mental health facility on Sunday.
