According to a study from Newcastle University, a dog’s behavior might be an indication of whether or not their owner is facing health issues.

Researchers collected data from movement sensors that kept track of the dogs’ behavior, starting with establishing normal patterns of behavior for the pet when it was alone or with it’s owner.

The researchers monitored the dog’s activities with cameras at first to set benchmarks for analysis of potential changes.

Nils Hammerla, an expert in the field of behavior imaging said: “A dog's physical and emotional dependence on their owner means that their wellbeing is likely to reflect that of their owner and any changes such as the dog being walked less often, or simply demonstrating 'unhappy' behavior could be an early indicator for families that an older relative needs help.”

For the study, researchers set up a monitoring collar system that worked for different breeds of dogs.

In doing so, they reportedly created the first system for remotely keeping track of a dog’s behavior without the use of cameras.

What do you think about the results of the study? Could a dog’s irregular behavior reflect health problems in the owner?
