Grandmother Accused of Killing Infant Grandchild With Sledgehammer and Knife

A woman in Chicago has been charged with an unthinkable and horrific crime. 61-year-old Alfreda Giedrojc has been accused of murdering her baby granddaughter by using a sledgehammer and knife.

She is currently being held without bond in a hospital connected to Cook County Jail. Giedrojc is facing a charge of first degree murder.
According to the local prosecutor, Giedrojc laid the 6-month-old infant on the floor while she was alone with the child. The grandmother then picked up a sledge hammer, which she had placed in a nearby closet the previous night.
Giedrojc allegedly struck the baby with the tool numerous times, but the infant was still crying and moving so she decided to retrieve a knife. Giedrojc then slit the child’s throat.
Shortly after the gruesome attack, the infant was pronounced dead at a nearby medical center.
Neighbors of Giedrojc family are in shock, claiming they were always friendly. They also mentioned that the grandchildren were often at the house. Medical authorities are currently keeping the grandmother under observation.
