Of the four men who went on a fishing trip in Yakutia, Russia last fall only two have since returned.
One of the other men has been pronounced dead, as his friends admitted to killing and eating him to keep themselves alive.
The fourth fisherman remains missing.
Yakutia is known for its extreme weather, with temperatures falling as low as minus 76 degrees Fahrenheit.
Having gone there to enjoy the area’s lush fishing options, they became trapped when the river waters rose too high for them to leave.
Their car sank along with their food and warm, dry clothes leaving them to wander from hunting camp to hunting camp for shelter and sustenance.
Often times they got lucky, as it’s a custom in the area to leave the camps stocked with matches, food, and clothes.
When they didn’t they had to resort to eating wood chips.
Upon being rescued, they denied having killed and eaten their friend for food, claiming that he and the other had gone for help, but eventually admitted to the fact.
It’s believed that the missing fourth fisherman fell to the same fate.
