    French film director Patrice Chéreau dies aged 68

    The celebrated French theatre, opera and film director, Patrice Chéreau, has died at the age of 68 from lung cancer.

    He was one of the masters of the European scene for more than 40 years and director of the legendary Théâtre des Amandiers at Nanterre in the Paris suburbs.

    One of his best known films was "La Reine Margot" which won the 1994 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize.
