Libya's prime minister has called for an explanation from Washington over a raid by US special forces in which an al Qaeda leader was snatched from his home in Tripoli.

At the same time the man's outraged family condemned it as kidnapping.

Abu Anas al-Liby is suspected of being behind the deadly 1998 US embassy attacks in Kenya and Tanzania.
