Cyanide suicide: couple found dead in Edinburgh luxury hotel

A couple was found dead in a luxury room at the Scotsman hotel in Edinburgh on Thursday.

According to local reports, it is believed that the man and the woman committed suicide with cyanide.

A cleaner entered the hotel room at around 12:15 pm and found the couple dead in bed.

The hotel staff immediately raised the alert and police, fire and ambulance crews arrived at the scene.

Fire crews wore chemical protection gear before inspecting the hotel.

According to the reports, a container with chemicals was found in the room.

The sixth floor of the hotel was evacuated while police cordoned off surrounding streets amid initial fears of a terrorist attack.

According to the Daily Mail, the investigation is at an early stage. The deaths are still treated as unexplained and neither the ages or nationalities of the deceased have been established.
