On those rough days when anything and everything seems to go wrong, there’s nothing that can cheer you up like an unexpected, kind hearted gesture.

Customers shopping in retail stores in and around Salem, Oregon have been opening up boxes of food to find 100 dollar bills tucked inside. While it was originally a mystery as to who was placing the money in grocery items, it has since been solved.

A country music radio station based in Portland, 98.7 The Bull is responsible for at least some of the left-behind bills as part of a promotion. It was first brought to light last week after a man found two $100 bills stashed in boxes of cookies at a local Walmart.

Since then, several more people have come forward, claiming to have found additional cash in several other local stores. The goal of the promotion is to do some good and make someone’s day a little brighter.

According to a spokesperson at the radio station, they are hoping the story will spread so other good Samaritans can continue the trend and pay it forward.

The contest is scheduled to continue for another 5 weeks, so the scavenger hunt for the bills will continue.
