Red Lobster racist receipt? Toni Christina Jenkins, a 19-year-old nursing student in Nashville, Tennessee, and waitress at Red Lobster, claims a customer wrote "none n**ger" on the tip line of a credit card receipt.
Jenkins claims she was subjected to the racist insult on September 7, 2013, when a customer wrote the insulting words on the $45 seafood check. She shared the receipt with her manager, who assured her she had done nothing wrong when serving the couple, who were white and in their 20s.
Jenkins later posted a photo of the receipt to her Facebook. She wrote: "This is what I got as a tip last night...so happy to live in the proud southern states..God Bless America, land of the free and home of the low class racists of Tennessee."
The post was picked up by Gawker and later the Daily Mail. Now it's the subject of much speculation on the internets.
The photo clearly identifies Devin Barnes as the credit card holder. So now the next phase of this story will begin: who is Devin Barnes and did he really write those offending words? Or did is the receipt a hoax made up by Jenkins?
Armchair handwriting experts on the internets claim a forgery. They say the "none" and "n**ger" don't appear to be in the same handwriting. Comparisons to Tawana Brawley have been predictable.
Whatever the case, we're sure this story will have legs for a few more days and you will be hearing from Jenkins again.
Do you think the receipt is real? Or did Jenkins make the story up? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
