Pakistan attack on politician: at least 10 killed, 24 injured

At least 10 people were killed on Friday in an attack to a politician outside a mosque in the Pakistani city of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province.
According to reports, former provincial government minister Ali Mohammad Jattack came out of a mosque with a group of supporters after sunrise prayers marking the start of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
He then entered a car, and while driving past worshippers a group of gunmen approached the vehicle and opened fire.
The shooting seemed to have been aimed at former provincial government minister Ali Mohammad Jattack but the motive and perpetrators were not clear, Reuters reported.
According to reports, at least 10 people were killed while at least 24 were injured. Police said Jattack managed to escape unhurt.
Nobody has so far claimed responsibility for the shooting.
The attack came a day after a Taliban suicide bomber killed 30 people at a police funeral in Quetta.
According to Express News, following the shooting, eight suspected militants were arrested and kalashnikovs and other weapons were recovered from their possession.
According to AP, "Baluchistan is home to both Islamic militants and separatists who have been waging a low-level insurgency against the government for decades.
