At least 42 people were killed and hundreds were injured in two bomb attacks in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli on August 23. The apparently coordinated blasts are thought to be the biggest and deadliest attack in the country since the end of its civil war in 1990.

According to Reuters, the first explosion hit the Taqwa mosque, frequented by hardline Sunni Islamists and killed at least 14 people there. The second blast took place a few minutes later outside the al-Salam mosque. The two explosives came only a week after a huge car bomb killed at least 24 people in Beirut.
