With all of the things he could have done to celebrate his birthday, William Cochrane from Inverness, Scotland chose to ring in his 28th year by going on a crime spree, abandoning his dog in the process.
Don’t worry about the pup, though – the dog got the last laugh.
Cochrane walked into a store and grabbed himself an iPod and some speakers.
He was able to evade shop employees, but had to leave behind his dog, which he’d tied up outside the store.
When police responded to the store’s call reporting the theft they noticed the dog sitting there and checked its tags.
On those tags was Cochrane’s address, making it an easy afternoon for the cops, but not so great a birthday for Cochrane.
He was taken into custody and eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of dishonesty.
Cochrane has a drug problem, and was ordered to participate in a treatment program for his addiction and undergo testing for the coming two years.
