Cameras capture the moment a magnitude 7 earthquake hit parts of southern Peru.

What's not yet clear is the extent of any casualties.

There've been reports of deaths but none had been confirmed by 0400GMT on Thursday.

There are fears the quake may have set off collapses at copper mines in remote areas, trapping workers below ground.

It also caused landslides and power cuts.

The quake was powerful enough to shake buildings in the capital, Lima, more than 500 kilometres away.
