Strong earthquake strikes southwest Pakistan

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 has struck a remote area of southwestern Pakistan, according to the US Geological Survey.

The tremor was felt just before 4.30 in the afternoon local time, and was centred about 100 kilometres from the town of Khuzdar in the province of Balochistan.

Reports say it was felt as far away as the Indian capital New Delhi, where buildings shook.
