The entire town of Whitmire, South Carolina is getting new addresses.

The entire town of Whitmire, South Carolina is getting new addresses.

Some residents will only have their home or business building numbers changed, but others are getting the works, fresh street name and all.

It seems that when the 911 address system was released in 1995, Whitmire decided to take a pass.

Now, public safety officials and emergency medical personnel say they’re having a tough time finding some people - especially those who live on Railroad Avenue.

Apparently there are a few of them and they are randomly strewn all over town.

Another oddity of their current address system is that the house numbers aren’t in any sensible order.

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is fronting the money for the change.

Whitmire’s mayor has expressed his gratitude, and also a bit of excitement. He announced that even Town Hall will be receiving a new address.

The changes are to be finalized by mid-October. Letters letting individuals know what their new address is have been dropped in the mail.

GPS providers have also been alerted, but officials are unsure how long it takes for those updates to happen.
