U.S. House passes bill to kill Obamacare, avert government shutdown

The U.S. House of Representatives passes legislation to fund federal agencies from October 1 to December 15, while also derailing the healthcare law known as "Obamacare."
After the partisan vote of 230-189, cheers erupt for House Speaker John Boehner at a news conference with fellow Republicans.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER SAYING:
"Our message to the United States Senate is real simple: The American people don't want the government shut down, and they don't want Obamacare."
Democrats on the House floor had urged members to keep the law in place.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) CONGRESSMAN JOHN LEWIS SAYING:
"The voters have spoken. The Supreme Court has ruled. The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land. It is constitutional. It is compassionate. It is what is right."
The Republican-controlled House now sends the measure to the Senate, where Democrats in the majority warn they will kill the Republican initiative.
