    Back in May, when the Gezi Park protests in Central Istanbul started, Turkish mainstream news sources were criticised for failing to cover the demonstrations, comprehensively. Social media, which had been used extensively in the early days, played an even more important role. The demonstrators shared information on Twitter; posted news updates on Facebook sites; put up photographs of the protests on Flickr and Tumblr, and videos on YouTube.
