Black cats, broken mirrors, opening an umbrella inside, walking under a ladder, and the number 13 are all considered by superstitious people to be bad luck. And according to the CEO of the formal attire company Men’s Warehouse, business is slow and fewer couples are getting married this year because they’re worried about being cursed by the Gregorian calendar year 2013.

Broken mirrors, black cats opening an umbrella inside, walking under a ladder, and the number 13 are all considered by superstitious people to be bad luck.

And according to the CEO of the formal attire company Men’s Warehouse, business is slow and fewer couples are getting married this year because they’re worried about being cursed by the Gregorian calendar year 2013.
Fear of the number 13 is called triskaidekaphobia.
Denise Favorule, the executive vice president for The Knot, said: “We've seen some chat among the brides on our community boards about the unluckiness of the number 13, which may be related to why we are also seeing growth in the number of registered events for 2014 to date compared to 2013, a trend we are hoping will continue.”

Couples are also known to be superstitious about lucky dates too, like July 7, 2007 having three number 7s in the date, which is considered by many people to be lucky.

Wedding industry vendors are known to offer discounts to couples that have their wedding on a Friday the 13th because it is harder to book events on that day.
