Police dogs definitely don’t have an easy life. One K9 dog in Rutherford County, Tennessee is lucky to be alive and its all thanks to another dog.

The K9 named Ely appeared to suffer heat distress during a manhunt for a shooting suspect on a hot day. Cops gave the pooch water and let him take a rest.

After resuming the search Ely got about 50 yards before collapsing. Ely was taken to a local veterinarian who discovered that his blood platelets were low.

That’s when another dog, named Buddy, came to the rescue. Buddy was living at Williams Animal Hospital, waiting to be adopted by a loving family. Veterinarians decided to use some of Buddy’s blood to transfuse it into Ely.

Since the procedure, Ely has being steadily recovering. He’s eating well and his vitals have been stabilized.

As for Buddy, he is still waiting for a better life.

Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold stated “Hopefully we can find Buddy a new home for the sacrifice he gave to us.”
