STORY: Video obtained by Reuters shows clashes between Syrian rebels and forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad in and around the Idlib province town of Ariha on Monday (September 9).

The town, in the Zawya mountain, is considered strategically important as it connects the provinces of Latakia, to the south and Aleppo to the North.

Rebels and Syrian government forces have been fighting for control of several towns and military bases in the Idlib province.

An opposition group said last week, on September 3, that Syrian forces had seized the town in a move that would open the supply line between the coastal stronghold and pockets of army control in a region that is largely rebel controlled.

Other activists, however, said the battle was not over and that rebels were still fighting the regime in Ariha, located near a major highway in the northern province of Idlib.
