Crime against women continues to be a serious social problem in India. According to official data, one woman dies every hour in India because of dowry-related crimes. This highlights the growing concern about what Indian women have to live with. Social activists say the country’s economic boom has made demands for dowries more persistent and the ongoing trend seems to be ever increasing day by day. According to National Crime Records Bureau data more than 8000 women were killed across India in 2012 because of dowry-related disputes.
