A court in India finds four men guilty of the gang rape and murder of a 23 year old woman on a moving bus last year in New Delhi in a case that has sparked national outrage.

Sentencing hearings are set to begin Wednesday with all four facing the death penalty.

A defense lawyer for two of the convicted men says they will likely appeal.

In December of 2012, the 23 year old woman was raped and tortured with an iron rod by six people on a moving bus. She later died of her injuries.

The case drew national and international outrage with thousands protesting to raise awareness about the country's lax anti-rape laws.

Changes to the laws have been implemented, and some say this case has stoked public awareness about sexual violence towards women.

A fifth suspect, an 18 year old male who was tried as a minor, received three years in a juvenile detention center.
