The platform employee for Southend Central was suspended after jumping on train tracks in an effort to save a woman.
We've all heard the phrase - ‘no good deed goes unpunished’. A railway worker in Essex, United Kingdom now knows this.
The platform employee for Southend Central was suspended after jumping on train tracks in an effort to save a woman. The disabled lady had accidentally fallen off the edge of the platform.
The troubling incident occurred on August 28th. The heroic worker managed to successfully recue the woman, but he received a metaphorical slap to the face for his brave actions.
A spokesman for train company c2c stated “We have strict rules regarding the safety procedure for the quickest way of stopping trains in an emergency."
The woman fell at exactly 6.10 pm and the next train was scheduled to come in 5 minutes later. The incoming train was only a quarter mile away from the tracks when the incident occurred.
The railway worker’s heroic actions saved the female’s life. The general secretary of the UK's National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers is livid with the train company’s decision to suspend the employee.
He called the move ‘diabolical’ and steadfastly defended the worker.
