A strip of land in the Hamptons that is one foot wide and 1885 feet long stretching from Montauk Highway in Suffolk County, New York to the Atlantic Ocean has been auctioned off for the amount of 120 thousand dollars.

Two neighbors that own land on one side of the narrow strip set off a bidding war that drove the price up from an initial amount of ten dollars, when it was offered by the county to the six land owners that have property adjoining it.

Four people didn’t respond to the property offer from Suffolk county, but the two that did were told that they could do a face to face auction for a 15 hundred dollar minimum bid.

The price was driven up so high because one of the neighbors reportedly didn’t want the other neighbor walking through his property to get to the ocean beach.

They went through 34 back and forth auction bids before one of the two men put in the winning price of 120 thousand dollars.

What do you think about the extremely high price that was paid for this bit of land?
