A team of researchers from the University of Alberta in Canada has found thousands of different compounds in pee by using a series of five different scientific testing methods.

20 researchers worked on the study over a 7 year period to figure out all the different chemical compounds that are found in human urine, and by the end, they discovered over 3 thousand individual compounds.

Most medical textbooks reportedly list between 50 and 100 compounds in urine, and most urinalysis only test for a handful of different compounds.

All of the data from the study has been made available for free in an online searchable database for people who are curious to find out just what is coming out of their bodies when they urinate.

According to the study, around 23 hundred compounds that are found in urine are from outside of our bodies in things that we ingest or apply like food, drinks, drugs, and even cosmetic make up.

The researchers say that their work doesn’t fully explain urine, and that their study should be used as a beginning for further research into the field.
